Introduction
Elderberry is a species complex of flowering plants in the family Caprifoliaceae. Native to most of Europe.Common names include elder, Sambucus nigra, black elder, European elder, European elderberry and European black elderberry. It grows in a variety of conditions including both wet and dry fertile soils, primarily in sunny locations. Beneficial ingredients: Elderberries extract contain organic pigments, tannin, amino acids, carotenoids, flavonoids, sugar, rutin, viburnic acid, vitaman A and B and a large amount of vitamin C. They are also mildly laxative, a diuretic, and diaphoretic. Flavonoids, including quercetin, are believed to account for the therapeutic actions of the elderberry flowers and berries. Elderberry Sambucus pigment containing glucoside (sambicyanin), anthocyanidin glucoside (cyanidol glucoside), also a hydrogen containing amino acid (iridoid glucoside), morroniside (morroniside). High-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry have been used to identify individual anthocyanins, which give the berry its color.
