[ Introduction ]
Artichoke extract is the water or alcohol extract of the perennial herb Artichoke, which has pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, liver protection, cholesterol lowering, antibacterial, and gastrointestinal improvement. Artichoke extract can be used in food additives, feed additives, antioxidants and even medicines, etc.
[ Main Functions ]
1. Treat indigestion
In Europe, artichoke has long been used as an herbal remedy for indigestion. Artichoke extract is used to treat gastrointestinal ailments including abdominal pain, bloating, and nausea.
2. Lowering blood lipids and anti-atherosclerosis
Many experiments have shown that artichoke extract can reduce blood lipids, mainly by affecting the synthesis and decomposition pathways of cholesterol and lipids in the liver to regulate lipid levels, thereby preventing the occurrence of atherosclerosis.
3. Liver protection and antioxidant function
Studies on the antioxidant function of artichoke mostly focus on leaf extracts. The antioxidant capacity of polyphenolic compounds isolated and extracted from artichoke was found to be mainly determined by the number of hydroxyl groups on the aromatic ring. The more hydroxyl groups contained, the stronger the antioxidant capacity.
4. Antimicrobial effect
The antimicrobial activities of chlorogenic acid, artichoke acid, luteolin-7-rutinoside and artichoke glycoside in artichoke were relatively high, and the antifungal activity was stronger than the antibacterial activity.
